Economic Reform Committee Tells Commercial Banks To Implement Payment Of Taxes In Cash

The Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform, has directed commercial banks tasked to collect taxes on behalf of revenue agency, SSRA to comply with the committee’s recent policy demanding payment of taxes in cash, as payments of salaries to organized forces proceed. The committee, in its 14th regular meeting, led by Interior Minister and Acting Chairperson, General Aleu Ayieny Aleu, has defended its decision saying it is aimed at addressing liquidity crisis and to enable timely payment of salaries. In a media briefing, Acting Rapporteur and Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, says the committee listens to a number of briefings, some of these include the sub-committee’s visit to different checkpoints along the Juba-Bahr el Ghazal and Juba-Yei Roads respectively, where security agencies were directed to refrain from demanding fees from drivers and warned them against illegal restoration of checkpoints.
