The ruling party SPLM is stepping up preparations for its 3rd National Convention ahead of the December 2026 General Elections. In a meeting chaired by SPLM Chairman and President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the party leadership adopted new guidelines governing internal congresses, primaries, and the selection of candidates. The party says the move is aimed at strengthening internal democracy and ensuring credible representation at all levels. President Kiir also received a briefing on political and electoral preparedness in Maiwut and Longechuk Counties of Upper Nile State.
