The Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, has reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to holding the December 2026 general elections. Lomuro held talks with Geoffrey Onyema, former Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister and Head of the African Union pre-election assessment mission to South Sudan. The discussions focused on the ongoing political process and preparations for the elections. Onyema says engagements with government institutions and political parties had provided positive feedback on the countryโs readiness, expressing confidence that the elections could be free, fair, transparent and credible.ย
