President Salva Kiir holds talks with a visiting delegation from the East African Community, led by Secretary-General Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi, currently in Juba for the launch of national consultations on the proposed Constitution of the EAC Political Confederation. The delegation briefed President Kiir on the EAC’s priorities, including expanding regional trade, developing infrastructure, addressing climate change and advancing political integration among member states. Ambassador Mbundi said the consultations would gather views from political leaders, civil society, women, youth and academia on the proposed Confederation’s structure, governance, decision-making processes, powers and financing. East African Community Affairs Minister Michael Makuei Lueth says President Kiir expressed appreciation to the Secretary-General and his delegation for overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the regional bloc.
