Caretaker Finance and Planning Minister Athian Diing Athian has pledged to strengthen economic stabilisation mechanisms as the country heads towards the December general elections. Minister Athian waved to elated ministry officials, including Directors General, as well as classified and unclassified staff, who turned out on Thursday to warmly welcome him at the ministry’s headquarters. Athian’s appointment comes at a time when the country is grappling with economic challenges. With the December general elections approaching, he is expected to accelerate the government’s economic reform agenda. In his opening remarks, Minister Athian stressed the importance of maintaining cooperation within the institution to effectively address the needs of citizens as the country prepares for the general elections scheduled for December 2026.
