ISRAAID DISTRIBUTES FOOD TO OVER 900 HOUSEHOLDS IN TEREKEKA

IsraAid South Sudan has distributed food supplies to more than nine hundred households in Terekeka County, Central Equatoria State, amid growing concerns over food insecurity. The assistance targets displaced people and vulnerable members of host communities in Jor and Kuggi Bomas, where poor rainfall and extreme weather conditions have affected agricultural production. The food package includes cereal flour, vegetable oil, pulses and salt, with supplies expected to support the beneficiaries for at least one month.IsraAid South Sudan Country Director Thomas Okollah says the intervention is aimed at mitigating the impact of drought and looming hunger among displaced and host communities.Terekeka is traditionally known for supplying fresh food to Juba City. However, inadequate rainfall during the current agricultural season has affected farmers and raised concerns over poor harvests.Local residents say the assistance comes at a critical time as hunger continues to affect communities in the area.Thomas Laku Lado, Sub-Chief of Jor Boma, describes the food assistance as timely support for families facing food shortages.β€œThere is hunger in our communities, there is no rain, meaning there is no food,” he said.A displaced resident from Kuggi, Elizabeth Kiden, says extreme heat destroyed crops and left families struggling to feed their children.β€œOur food was burnt by the heat wave. This food will support us and our children. Water access has become a problem too in this area, but now we have something to place on the table,” she said.Β IsraAid says the distribution is part of efforts to support communities affected by conflict, displacement and climate-related shocks.Climate change, drought and displacement continue to worsen food insecurity across South Sudan, leaving many families with little or no food to sustain their households.
