The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, has called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to advance the Draft National Payment System Bill, 2025. Speaking at the conclusion of a five-day validation workshop in Juba, the Governor said South Sudan must move away from its heavy reliance on cash and embrace secure, efficient and reliable digital payment systems. The workshop brought together government institutions, commercial banks, telecommunications companies, the National Communication Authority and the East African Community Secretariat. Dr. Othow said the proposed law should strengthen financial inclusion, consumer and data protection, licensing and regulation, while supporting private-sector development.
