President Salva Kiir says South Sudan remains at the forefront of efforts to restore peace and security in Sudan, noting that stability in Sudan is intrinsically linked to peace in South Sudan. The President made the remarks following talks with the General Governor of Sudan’s Darfur Region, Mini Arko Minawi, which focused on regional security, peace, and economic stability for shared growth. Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs Tut Gatluak Manime said Juba has a significant role to play in the search for a sustainable political settlement to the conflict in Sudan. Governor Minawi says South Sudan’s proximity to Sudan, coupled with the two countries’ longstanding historical and economic ties, makes Juba an important stakeholder in regional peace efforts. The meeting comes as South Sudan continues to position itself as a key regional interlocutor in efforts to advance peace in Sudan, with Juba seeking to use its historical ties and diplomatic channels to support a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
