The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Gabriel Bol Deng, secures backing from the African Union for the conduct of December 2026 elections. The Elections Chief, participated in a roundtable event on democracy, media and socialization in Africa, held from 26 through 27 October 2026 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he updated the leaders of the African Union on the status of electoral arrangements in the Country. Gabriel says elections are about way of life, not peaceful transfer of power alone through ballot box… Representing the Union of Journalist of South Sudan, Partick Oyet says the Union of Journalist commits to work closely with the National Elections Commission to disseminate reliable electoral information to the public both during and after post-election periods.
The event was organized by the African Union (AU) in collaboration with International IDEA Project focuses on strengthening African Countries Election Management body (EMB)’ capacities for election administration.
