President Kiir Issues Republican Decrees on Government Reshuffle

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has issued a series of Republican Decrees effecting major changes within the executive, with immediate effect. According to the decrees announced on Tuesday, several senior government officials have been relieved of their duties and new appointments made across key ministries and security institutions. Relief from Duties Those relieved include: 1. Amb. James Pitia Morgan, Presidential Envoy for the Great Lakes Region 2. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation 3. Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang, Minister of Trade and Industry 4. Hon. Mary Nawai Martin, Minister of Youth and Sports 5. GEN. Akec Tong Aleu, Undersecretary for Defence at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs 6. Gen. Mawien Mawien Ariik, Director General of the Internal Security Bureau, National Security Service 7. Lt. Gen. John Manut Wol, Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Bureau 8. Lt. Gen. Gregory Deng Kuac, 1st Deputy Director General of the General Intelligence Bureau New Appointments In the same decrees, the President appointed officials to new roles. However, some appointment details were not fully clear in the official communication. Among the notable changes: 1. Amb. James Pitia Morgan has been reassigned within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation 2. Dr. Margaret Labanya Mathya has been appointed to a senior role in the Ministry of Trade and Industry 3. Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang has been appointed to a new ministerial position 4. Lt. Gen. Gregory Deng Kuac has been assigned a new role within the Ministry of Defence and Veterans’ Affairs 5. Gen. Akec Tong Aleu has been reappointed as Director General of the ISB-NSS 6. Lt. Gen. Napoleon Adok Gai has also been appointed as Deputy Director for the Internal Security Bureau, NSS President Kiir has expressed his appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service to the nation and wished the newly appointed leaders success in their new responsibilities. The decrees take effect from April 29, 2026.
