President Salva Kiir has crossed from Nairobi, Kenya to Pretoria, South Africa for follow-up discussions with his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, on peace and electoral support. President Salva Kiir Mayardit departed Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday for South Africa following talks with Kenyan President William Ruto. The South Africa visit is expected to focus on follow-up election support talks with President Cyril, who chairs the African Union High-Level Ad Hoc Committee for South Sudan, also known as the C5. The talks come after the Committee adopted a declaration concerning South Sudan’s peace process and electoral preparations. President Kiir’s regional engagements form part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to support peace, stability and the country’s transition towards elections. The head of state is expected to continue consultations with regional and continental leaders as South Sudan prepares for the December 2026 elections.
