MASSIVE CROWDS TURN OUT IN AWEIL TO WELCOME FIRST LADY AHEAD OF PRESIDENT KIIR’S VISIT

Thousands of enthusiastic residents lined the streets of Aweil this morning to give a rousing welcome to First Lady Mama Mary Ayen Mayardit as she arrived ahead of President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s scheduled visit to the Bahr el Ghazal region tomorrow.

The jubilant crowd, comprising community leaders, women, youth, and local residents, expressed their excitement and support through songs, dances, and chants as the First Lady’s convoy made its way through the town.

Upon arrival, Mama Mary Ayen Mayardit and her delegation were officially received by Governor Charles Madut Akol before continuing their journey by road to Warrap State.

The overwhelming turnout is seen as a reflection of the strong public anticipation surrounding President Kiir’s visit, which will be his first official trip to the Bahr el Ghazal region in 2026.

Residents said the visit demonstrates the leadership’s continued commitment to engaging with communities and addressing issues affecting the region.
