The government and UN humanitarian agencies have adopted the Juba Declaration on Institutionalizing Anticipatory Action 2026 as a roadmap for strengthening disaster preparedness in South Sudan. The declaration was adopted at the end of a three-day National Dialogue aimed at setting national priorities for anticipatory action to reduce the impact of disasters before striking. Humanitarian Affairs Minister Albino Akol Atak has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to fast-track the Disaster Risk Management Bill. The UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Ramanathan Balakrishnan, has commended the government’s leadership and called on stakeholders to turn the declaration’s commitments into concrete action.
