Let’s head to the border town of Nimule, where the Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform has begun consultative talks with security officials and commercial banks operating at the Nimule border post on strengthening nationwide revenue collection days after the suspension of non-statutory tax exemptions. The Committee Chairperson, Pieng Deng Kuol, said the visit aims to identify loopholes in revenue mobilization and curb malpractices, including smuggling, unauthorized roadblocks and under-declaration of goods. The Committee also discussed with commercial banks the implementation of government directives on tax payments and revenue remittances to the South Sudan Revenue Authority.Bank managers welcomed the directive and pledged to comply with government measures aimed at improving revenue collection and addressing liquidity challenges in the country. The Committee’s Rapporteur, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister James Mawich, briefed the media on the outcomes of the meetings.
