South Sudan’s Boma–Badingilo Migratory Landscape has been inscribed as the country’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The decision was made during the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea attended by the national Minister of culture, museums and national heritage.The landscape hosts the Great Nile Migration, involving an estimated six million white-eared kob, tiang antelope, and Mongalla gazelles. UNESCO has also listed the site as a World Heritage Site in Danger to mobilize urgent support to address threats including poaching, habitat degradation, and climate change.
