The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, has convened with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Guang Cong, on the current situation in the Abyei Area, including political and security developments, Abyei’s participation in the forthcoming general elections, the implementation of the Abyei Protocol, and the role of the United Nations in supporting peace and stability. Dr. Morgan reaffirms the Government’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations and regional partners to advance peace, stability, and the full implementation of the Abyei Protocol. Cong reaffirms the United Nations’ readiness to continue engaging with the Government in support of lasting peace and stability in the Abyei Area.
