Unity state authorities have confirmed stable security situation despite the Thursday’s shooting incident at Rubkona Airstrip, which has been contained with the residents going about their businesses. This follows a briefing to the caretaker Minister of interior Rizik Zakaria Hassan by the Unity State Caretaker Governor Joseph Manytuil Wejang on election preparations in the state. Minister Rizik says he has shared his ministry’s election security strategy with the state government. Governor Joseph has highlighted challenges facing police personnel in Unity State, including shortages of mobility and uniforms. Separately, caretaker Interior Minister Rizik Zakaria Hassan engages in talks with Ethiopian Ambassador to South Sudan, Delil Kedir Bushra, on the ongoing construction of the Mawut-Gambela Highway, which is expected to improve the movement of people and goods between South Sudan and Ethiopia. Deputy Minister David Marial Gumke says the Minister also briefed the Ambassador on the government’s commitment to holding the country’s first democratic elections this year. The two sides further discussed experience-sharing, with the Ethiopian Ambassador pledging support to the National Police through technical training in election security management. Diplomat Bushra says the discussions also covered border security, reaffirming Ethiopia’s commitment to supporting the people of South Sudan in exercising their democratic rights during the election process
