GOV’T TURNS TO REVAMP AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES AS ALLIANCE LAUNCH SET

The government is intensifying efforts to revamp agricultural cooperatives, with a Cooperative Alliance conference scheduled for 12 May 2026 is expected to advance strategic importance of the Alliance.

The initiative is expected to strengthen cooperative-driven economic development, support community enterprises, and promote inclusive growth across the country.

This follows a meeting between the Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Lily Albino Akol, and the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), Johnny Ohisa Damian. Their discussions focused on the strategic importance of the Alliance and the Bank’s support in accelerating ongoing efforts to reinforce cooperative societies and advance food security.

Lily formally invited Governor Ohisa to attend the launch, emphasizing the critical role of the financial sector in supporting cooperative and agricultural development.

The two officials also reviewed areas of cooperation aimed at expanding access to financing for cooperatives and agribusinesses.
