Foreign Minister, UN Envoy Discuss Abyei Peace And Security

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. James Pitia Morgan, has convenes talks with Guang Cong, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, on the current situation in the Abyei Area, including political and security developments, Abyei’s participation in the forthcoming general elections, the implementation of the Abyei Protocol, and the role of the United Nations in supporting peace and stability.

 

Minister Morgan reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations and regional partners to advance peace, stability, and the full implementation of the Abyei Protocol. Guang Cong reaffirmed the United Nations’ readiness to continue engaging with the Government of South Sudan in support of lasting peace and stability in the Abyei Area.
