VICE PRESIDENT AKOL CALLS ON AU TO SUPPORT SOUTH SUDAN’S ELECTORAL PROCESS

Vice President for the Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, has called on the African Union (AU) to strengthen its support for South Sudan as the country prepares for its general elections scheduled for December 2026.

During a meeting in Juba, with a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council led by Ambassador Hirut Zemene Kassa, Vice President Akol highlights strides in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

Akol reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully implementing the agreement, stressing that inclusive political dialogue among parties remains essential in the lead-up to elections. He emphasized that sustained cooperation with regional and international partners is critical to ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
