Gov’t urges telecom operators to expand network coverage to rural communities

The Caretaker Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Ateny Wek Ateny, has urged telecommunications companies to expand network coverage to rural communities across South Sudan.

Minister Ateny made the call during a consultative meeting with telecommunications operators MTN, Zain and Digitel, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Ministry and mobile network companies. According to the Minister’s Executive Director, Chol Duang, the government is calling on telecom operators to improve connectivity in underserved areas, particularly ahead of the December elections. MTN Chief Executive Officer, Mapula Bodibe, pledged the company’s commitment to working with the Ministry to extend network services to rural communities. The government says improved network coverage will help enhance communication and access to information, especially in remote areas ahead of the elections.
