Relief Authorities, WFP Discuss Drought Response And Cash Assistance

, The Relief authorities and the World Food Programme have discussed measures to strengthen the response to drought and improve cash assistance for vulnerable communities across South Sudan, following the growing impact of a long drought on farmers and other vulnerable populations, as well as ways of strengthening cash-based assistance to help affected communities cope with the crisis.

Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Minister Albino Akol Atak says the government is devising practical measures to reduce the impact of drought and improve the delivery of assistance to communities most in need. WFP Assistant Executive Director Matthew Hollingworth says the meeting reviewed cash-assistance mechanisms and the humanitarian challenges arising from drought, reaffirming WFP’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s humanitarian response and vulnerable populations affected by the crisis.
