Minister of Presidential Affairs, Africano Mande Gedima, has engaged in talks with the United Nations Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Guang Cong, on strengthening cooperation between the Government of South Sudan and the UN. Cong emphasized the importance of collaboration between South Sudan and neighbouring Sudan to advance progress on key benchmarks tied to the future renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, commonly known as UNISFA. The envoy highlighted that meeting these benchmarks is critical for stability in the disputed Abyei region and for continued international support. Cong also reassured the government of the United Nations’ commitment to working closely with South Sudan to address outstanding concerns and promote peace and development. The meeting underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts to enhance regional stability.
