Cabinet Approves Constitutional Amendments To Remove Legal Obstacles To Elections

The country takes another significant step towards its planned 2026 general elections as the council of Ministers chaired by President Salva Kiir approves constitutional amendments aimed at removing legal obstructions to the conduct of the December elections. The constitutional amendments pave the way for the delinking of key provisions of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement that are considered obstacles to the conduct of the national elections. The Cabinet also discusses South Sudan's role in the East African Community as the government moves to strengthen regional engagement and advancing preparations for the nation’s next political transition.
