Economic Reform Committee Discusses Implementation Mechanisms For Decision On Nimule Mission

The Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform held its 8th regular meeting this evening in a session chaired by Hon. Pieng Deng Kuol at the Ministry of Finance and Planning.In his address to the media after the meeting, the Rapporteur of the Committee, Hon. James Mawich said the committee reviewed progress on key reforms and deliberated on matters of policy direction, technical backstopping and coordination of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for decisions and resolutions made.The Committee described the Nimule mission as a successful endeavor but resolved to form a technical team to conduct an evaluation and analysis of lessons learned, enforcement gaps and implementation challenges.The Committee also adopted the Terms of Reference for a Sub-Committee that will follow-up on implementation mechanisms consisting of Minister of Interior, Minister of Trade and Industry, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and Minister of Livestock and Fisheries as well as representatives of security sector for enforcement of the decisions reached and report to the high-level committee on timely basis.Minister Mawaich added that the Committee discussed the status of Government to Government fuel arrangement between South Sudan and Kenya and noted with concerns the market restrictions, sovereignty and institutional roles and resolved to make further determination on matter.The Committee also received a report on the response of collecting agencies and commercial banks on the recent order of cash transaction policy issued by the government and its implication in addressing the issue of liquidity crisis in the country.The Committee further emphasized the importance of strengthening, the capacity and recapitalizing the Bank of South Sudan to restore discipline in public financial management and improve revenue collections as key measures for broader economic reform agenda
