Economic Reform Committee Conducts Assessment Visit To Ezra Power Plant

A sub-committee dispatched by the Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reform, has inspected Ezra Power Plant to ensure familiarity with its needs for heavy fuel oil supply amid the rising cost of fuel.

A team, led by Rapporteur of the committee, Water Resources and irrigation Minister, James Mawich Makuach and Onyoti Adigo Nyikwach, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, accompanied by Undersecretary in the Ministry of Energy and Dams, Macham Macham Angui alongside technical team is being briefed the Ezra Power Plant management on operational challenges.

In a statement after inspection, Minister Mawich says, their visit to EZRA power plant follows request for tax exemption to facilitate the smooth operation of power supply in Juba, adding that the team assessed the storage capacity to determine quality and quantity that Ezra requires to keep its generators operating and supply uninterrupted and affordable electricity to residents in Juba city

He says the High-Level Committee approved the release of 20 trucks out off 100 trucks stranded at the border post of Nimule pending review of each request case by case to ensure the Presidential order on cancelation of non-statutory tax exemptions are implemented accordingly.

Energy and Dams Ministry’s Undersecretary, Macham Macham Angui emphasized the importance of fuel subsidy in form of tax exemption for the case of EZRA and JEDCO company to keep the prices of electricity stable in the market.
