The national police service and UMMISS have conducted a two-day leadership retreat intended to support a shared understanding of the how UN Police and South Sudan police could further strengthen cooperation in areas directly linked to protection orientated policing, operational coordination and early warning as well as community engagement. Speaking at the opening of the retreat, the Deputy Inspector General of Police Lieutenant General Thomas Jal Thomas who led the South Sudan national police delegation reaffirms the commitment of the national police service to coordinate and work in coordination with UNPOL in areas of civilian protection and capacity building of the national police service and he commends UMISS for supporting the people and the government of South Sudan.
The Deputy special representative of the secretary General, Graham Maitland says that the UN remains committed to supporting the peace and stability in South Sudan.
