PRESIDENT KIIR INSTRUCTS NATIONWIDE POWER EXPANSION TO IMPROVE LIVELIHOODS

At the statehouse Where President Salva Kiir has instructed nationwide power expansion to improve livelihoods. The Head of state made the instruction upon being briefed by the Minister of Energy and Dams Agok Makur Kur on the implementation of the president’s order on electricity tariffs and revenue-sharing arrangements between the Ministry of Energy and JEDCO under a 60-40 percent formula towards supporting economic growth and industrial development. The minister also revealed that the Egyptian government plans to donate power plants to Yambio, Rumbek, and Bor.

 

According to Makur, Egyptian engineers are expected to arrive soon in Rumbek to begin maintenance work on the town’s power station. Makur further stressed the importance of constructing the Fulla Dam project, describing it as a long-term solution to South Sudan’s electricity challenges.
