๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐, ๐๐๐๐ โPresident Salva Kiir Mayardit presided over a Council of Ministers meeting on Friday that endorsed South Sudan to host celebrations for Nile Basin Day in February, which will mark a major participation for South Sudan in regional affairs.โโSpeaking to the Press, Deputy Information Minister David Yau Yau said the Cabinet has approved the budget for the event, which will take place in Juba and is expected to attract representatives from all 11 Nile Basin Initiative member states.โโYau Yau asserted that this follows a Memo presented by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, James Mawich, which highlighted the nation's obligations with respect to the Nile Basin Initiative and other regional and international bodies.โโAfter deliberations, the Cabinet instructed the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Finance and Planning to engage in the coordination of the settlement of the arrears owed to regional and international organisations.โโThe event will bring together all the countries of the NBI, with aim to promoting cooperation, sustainable water management, and shared benefits of the Nile Basin Initiative, which was established on 22 February 1999.โโOfficials say the event presents an opportune time for the country to reaffirm its role within the regional bloc and strengthen diplomatic and development partnerships.
