A high-level humanitarian delegation led by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak, has travelled to Malakal, Upper Nile State, to assess humanitarian needs and engage with state authorities, affected communities and aid partners. The delegation includes the Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, Stephen Kueth Gach, and the WFP Acting Country Director. Minister Albino Akol Atak called for the reopening of the Sobat Corridor, removal of illegal taxes and roadblocks, and stronger preparedness amid declining donor funding. Parliament’s Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Committee Chairperson, Peter Lomude Francis, said Parliament would advocate for increased government contributions to humanitarian response. Upper Nile Governor James Koang Chuol reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving humanitarian access, while WFP Acting Country Director Adham Effendi warned that declining donor funding could significantly reduce assistance to refugees from September.
