Russia expresses continued support for South Sudan towards achieving its post-independence elections scheduled for December this year.

a meeting between the Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Ngere Paciko, and the Russian Ambassador to South Sudan, Ambassador Alexandra Kos-modeyan-skiy, which focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Russian Federation and South Sudan’s Parliament, exchanging ideas on promoting relations, and establishing a South Sudan–Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group. The proposed friendship group is expected to provide a platform for the two parliaments to strengthen cooperation and promote developmental engagement. Diplomat Kosmodeyanskiy says the discussions also focused on strengthening parliamentary relations and the future role of the Russian Federation in South Sudan.
